I recently purchased XM radio and really enjoy it. Some of what I like to listen to is classic American Top 40 shows. 70's countdowns are on Sat. @ 11am-2pm CT on XM 7. 80's countdowns are Sundays @ the same time on XM 8.
The first American Top 40 show aired in July 1970. Mama Told Me Not To Come was the first #1 song.
Before American Top 40 came along, How did stations keep up with #1 songs of the week?
